How We Work with Couples
We take a collaborative, nonjudgmental approach that prioritizes emotional safety for both partners. We help you view things from a relational perspective to help you understand each other with more clarity and compassion.
Our modalities include:
- Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT): Helps you understand the emotional needs underneath your arguments, so you can turn toward each other instead of away.
- The Gottman Method: A research-based approach with practical tools to manage conflict, deepen friendship and build lasting trust.
- Narrative Therapy & Internal Family Systems: Helps each partner understand the stories and inner "parts" they bring into the relationship.
- Relational-Cultural Therapy: Centers connection, and how culture, power and identity shape the way you love.
- Culturally responsive and LGBTQ+ affirming approaches: Care that honors every kind of couple and every kind of family.
- Trauma-informed care: Recognizes how past hurts show up in the present relationship, and moves at a pace that feels safe for you both.

What Our Clients Say

"Words can't express how grateful I am to my therapist for helping me rebuild myself - for identifying approaches that aren't working for me anymore, for making connections that help me understand how I got here, and for helping me identify new approaches that better fit who I am now and how I want to be in this world."
"Our work together has changed my life. I've made more progress in our one year of sessions than my past 9 years of other work combined."
"The safe space to share without having to edit my words to audiences who might “judge” me was great and also forced me to tell my therapist how I am feeling without masking anything."
“Having an ally and a sounding board as I worked through marital issues, and helping me to shift my mindset and approach to conflict and difficult moments.”

Ready to Reconnect with Your Partner?
FAQS
Is it “too late” for us?
Almost never. Many couples come to us after years of the same fights, or after trust has been broken. What matters most is that you’re both willing to show up. Even if you’re unsure about staying together, therapy can help you get clear.
Can couples therapy help us stop fighting all the time?
Yes. We help you spot the pattern behind your arguments, learn to cool down when things heat up, and repair afterward, so conflict brings you closer instead of pushing you apart.
Does couples therapy actually work?
For most couples who commit to it, yes. Approaches like the Gottman Method and EFT are well researched, and many couples notice better communication within the first few months.
What if my partner is struggling with anxiety or depression?
Mental health affects the whole relationship. Couples therapy can help you support each other without burning out, and we can also connect either partner with individual therapy at KCC.
Can we come to therapy even if things aren't "bad"?
Absolutely. Many couples come to strengthen their connection, prepare for a big step like marriage or a baby, or catch small patterns before they turn into bigger problems.
Do you offer therapy for LGBTQ+ or polyamorous relationships?
Yes. We’re proud to offer affirming care for LGBTQ+ couples and for those in open, poly and consensual nonmonogamous relationships.
