Life Transitions Therapy in DC & Maryland
Divorce, Co-Parenting, New Siblings, Moves, and Loss
Some changes you choose, and some choose you. Either way, transitions shake up routines, relationships, and your sense of who you are. Even good changes can bring grief, stress, and second-guessing. At Kennedy Counseling Collective, we help adults, couples, kids, and families find steady ground through big changes, in person on Kennedy Street or virtually.

Transitions We Help With
Divorce, Separation, and Co-Parenting: Whether you’re deciding what’s next or learning to co-parent, we help you lower conflict and keep kids at the center.
A New Sibling or Growing Family: A new baby, adoption, or blended family changes everyone’s place. We help kids adjust and parents handle the jealousy, regression, and exhaustion.
Moving and Starting Over: A new city, school, or home. We help kids and adults grieve the familiar, build new connections, and settle in.
Grief and Loss: The death of a loved one, a pet, or a relationship. We make room for grief at any age, including children’s grief, which often looks different from adults’.
Becoming a Parent: The joy and the identity shift. Support for the emotional side of new parenthood.
Other Big Changes: A career change, coming out, an empty nest, or a health change. If it feels big to you, it’s big enough for therapy.

What Our Clients Say
“I initially came to KCC as a result of challenges in my relationship with my partner. The therapy I received helped me connect the dots I needed to in order to understand how to move forward in a healthy way. I left KCC with more positive progress than I ever thought I would gain.”
"Words can't express how grateful I am to my therapist for helping me rebuild myself - for identifying approaches that aren't working for me anymore, for making connections that help me understand how I got here, and for helping me identify new approaches that better fit who I am now and how I want to be in this world."
"Our work together has changed my life. I've made more progress in our one year of sessions than my past 9 years of other work combined."
"The safe space to share without having to edit my words to audiences who might “judge” me was great and also forced me to tell my therapist how I am feeling without masking anything."
“Having an ally and a sounding board as I worked through marital issues, and helping me to shift my mindset and approach to conflict and difficult moments.”
"The most valuable thing about my therapy was] having someone unbiased get to know our son and become a supporter that he can/could trust"
“Learning to feel comfortable in my own skin again.”

FAQS
Should my child see a therapist during our divorce?
Many kids benefit from a space of their own during a divorce, even when they seem okay. A therapist can also help you plan how to talk with them about it.
Can my ex and I come to co-parenting sessions together?
Yes. Co-parenting sessions focus on your shared parenting, not on rehashing the relationship.
Is it normal for my child to regress after a new sibling arrives?
Yes. Changes in sleep, toileting, or clinginess are common. We help parents respond in ways that reassure rather than punish.
Do I need a "big" reason to come to therapy for a transition?
No. Coming in early, before stress builds, often makes change easier.
We just moved here. Can we start virtually?
Yes, for anyone in DC or Maryland. Many clients start virtually and come in person once they’ve settled.
Do you provide custody evaluations or testify in court?
No. Our role is to support you and your family through the change, not to evaluate for court.
